My surgery took place on September 9th with Dr Ibrahim Karatas. GMC coordinated everything for me, including purchasing the flight tickets, booking the hotel, and arranging appointments with the doctor and hospital. On September 8th, I flew from Manchester to Istanbul. The night before the flight, I received a guide video showing how to find the driver who would take us to the hospital. Upon arrival at the airport, we went directly to the designated location, where the agency was waiting for us with a list, along with a few other passengers. Unfortunately, the company translator was not present at the hospital, but the hospital translator arrived to assist us, which was excellent. Our room was assigned, and we went there, followed by the necessary tests. Around 8 PM, the internal medicine doctor reviewed the test results, examined me, and cleared me for surgery. The next morning, the translator and the doctor’s assistant arrived to guide me, which was very professional and helpful. Ultrasound and cardiology consultations were performed, and since everything was fine, I went for surgery at 11 AM. I met my surgeon in the operating room; there was no prior consultation or examination beforehand, although the doctor was excellent and answered all my questions. I did not have a pre-operative consultation with a psychologist, nor did I meet the anesthesiologist beforehand. The surgery went very well, and I saw the doctor the day after the operation. On the second post-operative day, the doctor visited me again, explained everything clearly, and I was discharged after the final check-up. I did not see a nutritionist, which was a little disappointing, but it is possible to find all the necessary information independently. The doctor was very good, and I felt confident in their hands. The doctor’s assistant, Ahmad Hasan, was extremely helpful and professional. Hospital services and all care were very good. Nurses did not speak English, but communication was possible with Google Translate, and they were very kind. All arrangements were on time and punctual. Overall, it was a smooth and stress-free process. If you plan to bring a companion, note that an additional £500 is charged for their ticket and the communication around it was not clear ( the only reason for giving 4 starts). In general, it is better to arrange your own flight.
